More Beliefs ...
I believe that to deny that God exists, or to live your life without acknowledging His existence or His authority over your life, is to commit Spiritual suicide. When your life ends on this earth, it's not that God then sends you to hell; you had already chosen hell over heaven. In fact, if God were to put you in heaven - in spite of your choice - He would cease to be loving or just. Why? Because - acting on the free will God gave you - you chose to build your entire life around yourself and others like you. You put yourself in charge and voted God off the island. Think about it. You would be absolutely miserable in heaven. It's full of all those weak minded simpletons who had to constantly lean on their "God-crutch" because they couldn't make it on their own.
Eric Metaxas points out, that some time ago, billionaire media mogul Ted Turner made a well-publicized comment about Christianity, calling it a "religion for losers." Though meant to be offensive to Christians, his statement actually contains a profound truth. True Christians are those who know they need help, big-time ... they know they cannot get through life alone. Eric writes, "You have to wonder which is the worse state: knowing you can't do something on your own and having to ask for help or thinking you can do it on your own and failing. You might say that one man's idea of a loser is another man's humble realist."
I believe Jesus, when He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me." I believe what Jesus said to Pilot, "They that are of the truth listen to me ...", in other words, anyone who is truly seeking truth will look to Jesus, because He is truth. After all, as OS Guinness said, "Without truth, a belief is only speculation plus sincerity."
I believe Jesus paid a debt He didn't owe and I couldn't pay. Jesus, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness ... he humbled himself even further, going so far as to actually die a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him a name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
I believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that I am saved (Acts 15:11). "By grace I have been saved through faith, and this not of myself; it is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) I believe that life on earth has an eternal purpose and is intended to prepare us for eternity that lies ahead. In effect we are all "in school" and God is the teacher. Of course there are many who refuse to "be schooled" or "go to class". Be that as it may, there will be many who will be very surprised, upon death, to learn the following; (a) There will be a final exam, and (b) God does not grade on a curve. |
